What’s changing?
Earlier this year, we introduced the policy visualization beta in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. We’re excited to announce that this feature is now generally available. Therefore, users interacting with policy-protected content, such as Data Loss Prevention (DLP) rules or trust rules, will now be able to clearly see what actions are restricted.
For example, when a user is working with a document subject to Data Loss Prevention (DLP) rules or trust rules, they will see a shield icon and a side panel indicating the restricted actions.
Impact:
With this update, users will be able to clearly understand which of their actions are disabled in a document, spreadsheet, slide, or file due to data protection controls.
Getting started
Admins:
There is no separate admin control option for this feature.
End users:
- All users subject to the relevant restrictions can see the policy visualization. Security restrictions may be applied by the document owner, shared drive policies, or administrator policies.
- The shield icon will automatically appear when security controls are in place. Users can use the shield icon or go to File > Security Restrictions to open the side panel to view all restrictions.
